Organic skin care

Organic skin care is the fastest growing segment of the skin care market.

New lines and products are appearing regularly, with an emphasis on babies, children, men and now, anti aging.

The rush to enter the market is spurred on by increasing consumer awareness of the havoc chemical ingredients wreak on organs, health and looks.

Why bother with organic skin care?

In the last few years science has confirmed that chemicals damage skin, the body’s largest organ, as well as internal organs.

Over 60% of what is applied topically reaches organs quickly. For example, medications in skin patches to control seasickness or tobacco use, etc. enter the body faster than medications taken orally.

Body and skin health correlates directly to what’s applied topically.

Research indicates that a buildup of toxic chemicals on the skin can cause acne, dry skin (leading to prematurely aging skin) and skin cancers.

Products’ effects can show on skin in an instant or, even worse, it may take years before the dreadful, cumulative results appear.

How to find good organic skin care

• One way is to read product labels and research ingredients on websites or databases BEFORE using.

• The second is to look for certified organic products.

• The Resources page on this site contains links to sites with excellent organic skin care products. There are, and will be, many more as new companies continue to form to meet the demand for clean skin care products.

The growing demand for chemical-free products, added to consumer willingness to pay extra for them, has led to some misleading and fraudulent claims of “organic” or “natural”.

Certified Organic labels

To be safe, look specifically for the USDA organic seal, as other certifying agencies are not as strict. If the USDA seal is missing, read the label to find out how many ingredients are synthetics, petrochemicals or nano-particles.

Using ingredients grown without pesticides provides what Mother Nature has to offer, which most often delivers identical, if not better, results than traditional, commercial synthetic products.

Organic skin care goes beyond fad or status symbol; it’s an intelligent choice for a healthier lifestyle and better looks.
