If I don't treat ringworm, what will happen?

If left untreated, ringworm can linger and become chronic or the lesions can become infected.

The resulting infections can be anything from mild to severe, with only a local response or getting into your system, which is serious, like cellulitis.

Because the ringworm fungus is highly contagious, if you don't treat it, there's more of a chance of that you'll transmit the disease to other people.

Besides, ringworm (tinea corporis) is in the same family as jock itch (tinea cruris) and athletes foot (tinea pedis) so it can easily spread to the groin area or the feet.

On hands and feet, the fungus can also infect finger or toe nails, causing onychomycosis.

None of these conditions is desirable, and some are life-threatening (cellulitis), so bottom line, don't leave ringworm (or jock itch or athletes foot) untreated.
