Anti aging skin care

Anti aging skin care is what people start seeking at the first sign of a "laugh line" or a brow wrinkle.

We all get to a point where we want to have younger-looking bodies and faces - especially faces, since they make the first impression on the people we meet.

That healthy glow and even tone with few wrinkles or brown age spots/sun spots says "I'm young and feel great".

When you know what to do - and why - a younger look is waiting right below the skin surface.

What affects skin and its newly forming cells

The best anti aging skin care products contain no harmful or toxic ingredients and are able to penetrate the skin's pores, reaching and nourishing cells forming in the layers below.

Research indicates that a build up of toxins on the skin causes acne, dry skin which leads to prematurely ageing skin, and skin cancer. These toxins are the harmful chemicals found in standard skin care products that are found everywhere.

In fact, Benzoyl Peroxide, one of the most commonly used ingredients in over-the-counter acne care products, is a free radical and as such, adds to the rapid aging process of the skin.

If you used, or are using, this to combat acne, you've got a head start on older-looking skin.

New skin cells are constantly developing several layers beneath the skin surface and migrate toward the top of the epidermis, or skin surface, when they're ready. This ongoing process takes 2 to 4 weeks.

As older cells die and rise to the surface to flake or slough off, newer cells continually move up to replace them, through natural exfoliation or by the use of exfoliating products.

In aging skin, the dead-cell layer thickens. Exfoliating gently once or twice a week will take off some of that thickness, leaving skin smoother and brighter looking.

How the new outer layer of skin looks - how many wrinkles, fine lines or age spots it has - depends on the nourishment the deep cells receive as they form.

The better the nourishment, the plumper (less wrinkled) and healthier (more even-colored and glowing) the new skin is. You want to find and use products able to reach and feed the deep cells.

Anti aging skin care products

No matter the cost of a product or its advertising claim or the testimonials that go along with it, the ingredients in a product are all that determine if your skin will be nourished - or not.

Far too many manufacturers use mineral oil in their skin care lines. It's a by-product of petroleum - thus very inexpensive for companies to use - and its molecules are too large to penetrate the skin's pores and it can't help aging skin care.

Whatever vitamins or mineral or herbs might be in a particular cream or lotion will remain on the skin surface along with the mineral oil. This FEELS good, because the skin is smooth and slippery, however the layers underneath the clogging barrier can't breathe or be nourished.

Collagen's molecules are also too large to penetrate skin pores. Spending extra money for something containing collagen is not doing your skin, or your piggy-bank, any good.

How skin works

Skin absorbs what's put on it. Skin pores allow more to enter the bloodstream than the digestive system does, only without the benefit of enzymes.

Absorption takes place very quickly, so that compounds coming into the body through skin pores can reach all organs in a matter of minutes.

When the skin is warm (in the sun, in a shower or from being washed), the pores are relaxed and open, welcoming whatever is in the shampoo, soap or sunscreen you're using. This is why avoiding chemical-based skin care products is important.

The right kind of anti aging skin care products will nourish you skin and make a visible difference quickly.

Product labels

By law, all labels are supposed to include a full list of ingredients so the consumer can determine exactly what the product contains. Most companies comply with this regulation. Many websites make the ingredient list of each product easily accessible.

If you're not sure whether or not an ingredient or chemical is considered harmful, research it online and make an informed decision about using it.

Anti aging skin care can bring pleasure and a great deal of satisfaction when there are visible results for your efforts.

Decreasing wrinkles or age spots, having even skin tone, texture and a young glow can certainly be done without harming your skin or your health!
