Acne cream

Acne cream? There are so many choices out there - in stores, advertised on TV, radio and online. What kind works and which is best for you?

Before choosing a product, you need to know your skin type. Is your skin oily or do you have dry skin?

Next, are you washing your face the right way and with a cleanser made for your type skin?

Whatever you put on your skin (the body's largest organ) is absorbed into your body VERY quickly. It's almost like eating whatever you use on your skin, except there is no digestive process to break down the ingredients!

Know what you're looking for

Most topical acne products work fairly well, however some are loaded with harmful ingredients, chemicals or properties that actually change the structure of your skin. That's a much bigger concern than just getting rid of zits!

With all of this in mind, the acne cream you want is one made for your particular skin type with as few of the known harmful ingredients and harsh chemicals as possible...one that helps heal your skin, keeps it moisturized AND one that does not cause internal problems.

Some acne products actually cause more breakouts because of what's in them.

Read label(s)

Benzoyl peroxide is considered an effective ingredient in almost every acne cream, yet it can severely dry out your skin or cause zits. Dry skin flakes more easily, clogging pores and creating a scenario that makes acne worse.

Check the label for the presence and percentage of Tretinoine and Adapalene. Either of these can cause severe, adverse reactions. Select a product with a low concentration of these active ingredient(s).

Read and follow directions. Use the recommended amount at the suggested times. More is not better...in fact, it could make things a lot worse.

Try the product on a small part of your face to see if your skin reacts to it. This helps you determine if this particular acne cream works for you, and if you like this product - or not.

Since ingredients like benzoyl peroxide dry skin, it's important to find a product that either does not contain benzoyl peroxide or includes a moisturizer.

There are plenty of creams made to help heal your skin, moisturize it and seal the pores. If the product you chose does not do all three, look for another or get a separate moisturizer.

If you decide to use a separate moisturizer, choose one made for your skin type and check with the pharmacist to be sure it, or any separate product you plan to use, is compatible with the product(s) you're using.

Finding the products that work best for you is a matter of knowing about your skin, reading labels and giving the acne cream a try.
