Arbonne skin care
Arbonne skin care is produced by a multi-level company that says it offers "pure Swiss skincare" - premium botanical products that are holistic, free of parabens and mineral oils, dyes and chemical fragrances. This sounds wholesome and pure, however further investigation reveals what its products DO contain. Over the past 5 years I've purchased several Arbonne skincare products from friends who became distributors. Most of these products stayed on a shelf in my cabinet because their containers broke or malfunctioned during normal use and storage. Recently I came across my unopened bottle of Arbonne skin care's "Intelligence Not-So-Basic Hair Conditioner", and read what was on the bottle. Although there are no ingredients listed on the containers of the skin care products still in my cabinet, the hair conditioner has a LONG list - 41 ingredients to be exact! The top half of the list, after 'water', the first ingredient, is mostly long chemical names. The toxicity of these ingredients ranges from "unknown/untested", to "suspect", to "slight" to "alarming". The botanical/herbal ingredients are about halfway down the list and are interspersed with chemicals - some of which are "iffy". NOTE: The law states that ingredients on labels be listed in descending order, starting with the greatest amount. Although this is spelled out, the FDA allows the manufacturers to police themselves on what claims they make and the ingredients they use. In the top 15 of the 41 ingredients listed in this Arbonne hair conditioner are: • #3 Behentrimonium Chloride - a toxic ammonium compound. Ingestion can be fatal. Concentrations as low as 0.1% can be irritating to eyes and cause necrosis (tissue death) of mucus membranes. • #8 Pyridoxine HCL - linked to cancer and develomental/reproductive toxicity Lesser or emerging concerns for this ingredient include endocrine disruption, organ system toxicity (non-reproductive), data gaps, biochemical or cellular level changes. • #9 Cetyl alcohol A few years ago, warnings on a bucket of cetyl alcohol stated: “Do not get in contact with skin” “Do not get in contact with eyes.” “Do not breathe dust.” Why should a product that’s used in lotions not be supposed to come in contact with skin??? Yes, it gets diluted, however I would rather use ingredients without any such warnings. • #13 Tocopherol acetate - linked to breast cancer and other health concerns. • #14 Ascorbyl Palmitate (C-Ester) - dangerous form of Vitamin C for skin. It's toxic to skin cells when exposed to sunlight (UVB irradiation). Considering the number of toxins in this "pure Swiss skincare product", I decided not to use it. I went to the Arbonne site to learn more, yet was unable to find this particular conditioner or any hair products, so it may have been discontinued. I stayed there to check out ingredients in currently available products, especially in the Anti-Aging line. Here's what I discovered about Arbonne skin care's RE9 Anti-Aging Eye Cream Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.
