Other Accutane side effects, warnings and problems

• An increased risk of scarring.

• Isotretinoin is a derivative of vitamin A and those taking it should not take vitamin A supplements, since large amounts of vitamin A can build up in the body and cause harm.

• Giving blood should be avoided if you're taking Isotretinoin. Donated blood might be given to a pregnant woman, and the presence of high quantities of Accutane in the blood can result in birth defects just as if the pregnant woman had taken it herself.

• Avoid tanning beds and direct sunlight because this drug causes sensitivity to both artificial UV rays and sunlight.

• To avoid scarring, stay away from facials using microdermabrasion, laser skin treatments or the use of hair removal products involving wax (paraben) for at least 6 months after the last dose of Accutane.

• This drug can cause vision impairment, especially at night.

• If you're taking Isotretinoin, swallow the capsules with a large glass of water to prevent irritation of the esophagus.

• Liver and blood tests may be recommended to make sure there are no negative effects from this medication.

• Before starting any treatment with Isotretinoin, notify your doctor if you have any of the following conditions: personal or family history of mental illness or depression.......asthma.......liver disease.......diabetes.......osteoporosis.......heart disease.......eating disorders

Accutane lawsuits

Lawsuits have been filed by patients after they experienced severe side effects while taking Accutane. These suits seek to recover compensatory damages for health care costs as well as pain and suffering brought on by this medication.

It's possible that certain side effects associated with Accutane may vary depending on the amount of the medication taken.

Roche discontinued the sale of the drug in 2009; however, the company claims that this cessation had nothing to do with the large volume of lawsuits it currently faces.

The generic drug, Isotretinoin is still available, as Claravis, Amnesteem, Clarus
, Decutan
, Isotret (Sotret)
, Izotek
, Oratane
, Roaccutane and Sotret, creating the same adverse effects.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved this Hoffman LaRoche drug in 1982 for prescription and use in treating severe nodular acne. A LaRoche executive admitted that the company WAS aware of the Accutane side effects as early as 1978.
